The journey of my camera and I

This September, I will start my internship at Bethel Media in Redding, California. I will be mentored by David Norona, the senior producer, who has 20 years of Hollywood and Broadway experience. Needless to say, he has a high standard of excellence in his work and I’m beyond excited to learn from him. During this internship, we will focus on shooting documentaries, promos and other film-projects. I will learn camera techniques as well as the ‘behind the scenes’ of a media company, as well as the people-skills needed to lead film crews.

That all sounds awesome, but you might be wondering why I want to spend 9 months learning about cinematography, photography and documentaries. One of my life goals is to be a translator of Gods heart. Gods heart is beating for His world and His children, and I want to communicate that message of His love. I believe that – besides spoken and written words – images are a very powerful tool for communication. It’s an universal language that speaks straight to people’s hearts. That’s why one of my biggest dreams is to start a media company that connects Kingdom-minded journalists who work with integrity, excellence and innovative creativity all over the world. Together we can use writing, photography and documentaries to tell the stories of today’s heroes, to share the testimonies of Gods light invading darkness and to portray the beautiful diversity in different cultures. When we’re using a language of love, a powerful, prophetic perspective and a lens of hope, I believe media can unlock the true destinies of nations.

This is the vision. This is the goal. But the journey towards it is just as important. Even when I’m not looking at my plans for the future, I still want to be behind a camera. Why? Because I just ENJOY it! I believe in beauty with all my heart and I love to capture the beauty of a person, moment or place. Life goes by so fast, sometimes we need to slow down and pause for a moment. When I have my camera in my hands, it feels like I can pause the world and create memories – for myself and for others. That’s why I want to keep shooting portraits, engagements and weddings besides focusing on (photo)journalism.

This summer, I’m transitioning from amateur to ‘a starting pro’. I will launch a new website for my photography this fall, which will hopefully be the start for the rest of my dream. I’m currently using this temporary blog page for my photography and I’ll still ask ‘amateur-prices’ for my photo shoots until the launch of the new website. I’ve been blessed with a new camera and other better equipment, which makes my time behind the camera so much easier and more rewarding. More fun for me as the photographer and better results for you as potential client! 🙂
